Showing #OpenGratitude for: Creative Commons

This is another post in my series of posts showing gratitude and appreciation for members of the open education community.

Today I’m going to focus on Creative Commons. From their website:

Creative Commons develops, supports, and stewards legal and technical infrastructure that maximizes digital creativity, sharing, and innovation.

Our vision is nothing less than realizing the full potential of the Internet — universal access to research and education, full participation in culture — to drive a new era of development, growth, and productivity.

Creative Commons provides the open licenses at the foundation of our efforts to share educational materials freely, legally, and globally. They work to support open license integration into a wide range of platforms. They have a huge Global Affiliate Network with over 500 volunteers and community members in 85 countries. They enable and facilitate an international Open Education Platform comprised of open education advocates working in the areas of open educational resources, open educational practices, and/or open education policy. They convene the annual CC Global Summit – and at this year’s summit (April 2018) they will publicly launch the CC Certification Program. For all these reasons and more, I’m grateful for Creative Commons and all the wonderful things they do for the open education community. Share some love for Creative Commons in the comments below.
